BORIS and GLIEB. — Two of the twelve sons of St. VLADIMIRO, Prince of Russia, who at Baptism received the names of Romano and David. After the death of Vladimiro (1015), they were massacred by their brother Sviatopolk: B. on 24 July 1015 and G. on 15 September. They were honored as martyrs and from the 11th and 12th centuries onwards they are found at the head of the list of national saints of the Russian Church.
The Catholic Church has included them in its calendar, since they lived before the schism.
