BORIE (Dumoulin-Borie), Pierre-Rose-Ursule, Blessed. - Of the Paris Foreign Missions, titular bishop of Acanthus, vicar apostolic of western Tonkin, martyred there on 24 Nov. 1838.

Born on 20 Feb. 1808 at Beynat (Corrèze), he entered the seminary of the Foreign Missions in 1829. Ordained priest at Bayeux on 21 Nov. 1830, in Dec. of the same year he set out for Tonkin, where he arrived in 1832. He was successively vicar in various districts and finally parish priest of the Christian community of Con-Dua. Forced into a nomadic life in the forests to escape persecution, he was captured on 2 June 1838, tortured several times with rods, and finally beheaded with seven dagger strokes at Dang-hoi, a few days after receiving his appointment as vicar apostolic. He was beatified by Leo XIII on 27 May 1900 together with other martyrs of Annam.
