BORIE (DUMOULIN-BORIE), PIERRE-ROSE-URSULE, blessed. - Of the Paris Foreign Missions, titular bishop of Acanto, apostolic vicar of western Tonchino, martyred there on 24 Nov. 1838.
Born on 20 Feb. 1808 at Beynat (Corrèze), he entered the seminary of the Foreign Missions in 1829. Ordained priest at Bayeux on 21 Nov. 1830, in Dec. of the same year he set out for Tonchino, where he arrived
in 1832. He subsequently served as vicar in various districts and finally as parish priest of the Christian community of Con-Dua. Forced to lead a nomadic life in the forests in order to escape persecution, he was captured on 2 June 1838, repeatedly tortured with rods, and finally beheaded at Dang-hoi with seven dagger blows, a few days after receiving his appointment as apostolic vicar. He was beatified by Leone XIII on 27 May 1900 together with other martyrs of Annam.
