Almatò, Pedro-José, Blessed

ALMATÒ, PEDRO-JOSÉ, blessed. – Dominican, martyred in Tonkin on 1 November 1861. Born on 1 November 1830 in S. Feliz Saserra (Spain), he entered the college of Ocaña in 1847. A subdeacon, he left for Manila in 1852, where he was ordained a priest in 1853. Having entered eastern Tonkin in 1855, he was beheaded together with the blessed Hermosilla and Berri-Ochoa. He was buried on 17 June 1888 in the church of the Annunziata at Vich. Beatified by Pius X on 20 April 1906, together with other martyrs of Annam (v. MARTIROLOGIO).
