ALMATÒ, PEDRO-JOSÉ, BEATO

ALMATÒ, PEDRO-José, Blessed. — Dominican, martyred in Tonkin on 1 Nov. 1861. Born on 1 Nov. 1830 at S. Feliz Sascra (Spain), he entered the college at Ocaña in 1847. As a subdeacon, he left in 1852 for Manila, where he was ordained priest in 1853. He entered eastern Tonkin in 1855 and was beheaded together with the Blessed Hermosilla and Berri-Ochoa. He was buried on 17 June 1888 in the church of the Annunciation at Vich. Beatified by Pius X on 20 Apr. 1906, together with other martyrs of Annam (v. MARTIROLOGIO).
