CHRISTOPHER JACOB BOSTRÖM (Swedish philosopher). Born at Piteå in 1797, died at Uppsala, where he was professor, in 1866. Though following BIbERT and GRUBBE, he developed a system of his own which exercised a great influence on Swedish thought and is expressed in a form of national idealism.
The universe is conceived as a hierarchy of conscious and personal beings, at whose summit is absolute perfection, God, from whom every idea of space and time is excluded, and whose eternal forms or ideas constitute the ground of finite natures or persons. One remains therefore in pantheism and creation is denied.
Boström’s works (among the principal: *De pantheismi relate ad religionem habitu diis*; *De nexu rerum cum Deo*) are published in *Samlade Skrifter*, edited by G. J. Keijser and H. Edfeldt (part 1 and 2, Uppsala 1883; part 3, Stockholm 1901).
