BOURDOISE, ADRIEN. - French priest, b. at Brou in 1584, d. at Paris in 1665, apostle and reformer of the clergy, for whom he established in Paris in 1611 the "community," which later became the seminary, of St-Nicolas du Chardonnet. His zeal and his example contributed effectively to the multiplication in France of seminaries, and of the parish schools that are their seedbed. His teaching on the dignities and duties of the priesthood is condensed in his pamphlet L'idée d'un bon ecclésiastique ou les sentences chrétiennes et cléricales (Le Puy 1658, often reprinted).
