Boyvin, Jean-Gabriel

BOYVIN, JEAN-GABRIEL. - Theologian of the Recollect Friars Minor, born at Vire in Normandy in the first half of the 17th century, died before 1681. He spent his life in teaching and in the study of Scotus, and became a jubilate lector and a distinguished Scotist.

Two notable theological-philosophical works are owed to him: Theologia Scoti a prolíxitate et subtilitas eius ab obscuritate libera et vindicata (Paris 1664) and Philosophia Scoti a prolíxitate et subtilitas eius ab obscuritate libera et vindicata (ibid. 1678). Both had various editions, for the most part edited by his confreres.
