BÜCHI, ALBERT. - Swiss historian, b. 1 June 1864 at Frauenfeld, d. 14 May 1930 at Friburgo. He studied at the Universities of Monaco and Vienna, and was a pupil of Grauert, Delbrück, Bresslau, and Wattenbach. Having graduated in 1889, he soon obtained a chair at the University of Friburgo, where he taught until his death.
Besides various works on Swiss history (Freiburgs Bruch mit Österreich, sein Übergang an Savoyen und Anschluss an die Eidgenossenschaft, 1897; Peter von Molsheim Freiburger Chronik der Burgunderkriege, 1914), special mention should be made of his edition of the correspondence of the humanist Bonstetten and of the biography of Card. Schiner, in two volumes,
the second of which was published posthumously (Kard. Mattius Schiner als Staatsmann und Kirchenfürst, Ein Beitrag zur allgemeinen und schweizerischen Geschichte von der Wende des XV-XVI. Jahrhunderts, in Collectanea Friburgensia, new series, 18 [1923] and 23 [1937]). In 1907 B. founded the Revue d'histoire ecclésiastique suisse.
