BÜCHI, ALBERT. - Swiss historian, b. June 1, 1864 in Frauenfeld, d. May 14, 1930 in Fribourg. He studied at the Universities of Munich and Vienna, and was a pupil of Grauert, Delbrück, Bresslau and Wattenbach. Having obtained his degree in 1889, he soon obtained a chair at the University of Fribourg, where he taught until his death.
In addition to several works on Swiss history (Freiburgs Bruch mit Österreich, sein Übergang an Savoyen und Anschluss an die Eidgenossenschaft, 1897; Peter von Molsheim Freiburger Chronik der Burgunderkriege, 1914), special mention should be made of the edition of the letters of the humanist Bonstetten and the biography of Card. Schiner, in two volumes, of which the second was posthumous (Kard. Mattius Schiner als Staatsmann und Kirchenfürst, Ein Beitrag zur allgemeinen und schweizerischen Geschichte von der Wende des XV-XVI. Jahrhunderts, in Collectanea Friburgensia, new series, 18 (1923) and 23 (1937). In 1907 B. founded the Revue d'histoire ecclésiastique suisse.
