BÜCHI, ALBERT

BÜCHI, ALBERT. - Swiss historian, b. June 1, 1864 at Frauenfeld, d. May 14, 1930 at Fribourg. He studied at the Universities of Munich and Vienna and was a pupil of Grauert, Delbrück, Bresslau, and Wattenbach. After graduating in 1889, he soon obtained a professorship at the University of Fribourg, where he taught until his death.

In addition to various works on Swiss history (Freiburgs Bruch mit Österreich, sein Übergang an Savoyen und Anschluss an die Eidgenossenschaft, 1897; Peter von Molsheims Freiburger Chronik der Burgunderkriege, 1914), special mention should be made of his edition of the correspondence of the humanist Bontetten and the biography of Cardinal Schiner in two volumes, the second posthumous (Kard. Mattäus Schiner als Staatsmann und Kirchenfürst, Ein Beitrag zur allgemeinen und schweizerischen Geschichte von der Wende des XV-XVI. Jahrhunderts, in Collectanea Friburgensia, new series, 18 (1923) and 23 (1937). In 1907 B. founded the Revue d'histoire ecclésiastique suisse.
