BRÜCK, HEINRICH. - Bishop, b. at Bingen on 25 Oct. 1831, d. at Mainz on 4 Nov. 1903. Ordained priest in 1855, he was appointed two years later professor of ecclesiastical history at the seminary of Mainz. In 1900 he became bishop of that diocese. He wrote a well-known manual of Church history (Lehrbuch der Kirchengeschichte, Mainz 1874), which was also translated into Italian.
Among his other works notable for their wide information and wealth of data are Geschichte der katholischen Kirche in Deutschland im neunzehnten Jahrhundert, Mainz 1887-1895, in five volumes, and a monograph on the ecclesiastical province of the Upper Rhine (Die Oberrheinische Kirchenprovinz von ihrer Gründung bis zur Gegenwart mit besonderer Berücksichtigung des Verhältnisses der Kirche zur Staatsgewalt, Mainz 1868).
