BRÜCK, HEINRICH. — Bishop, born in Bingen on 25 October 1831, died in Mainz on 4 November 1903. Ordained a priest in 1855, two years later he was appointed lecturer in ecclesiastical history at the Mainz seminary. In 1900 he became bishop of this diocese. He wrote a very well-known manual of Church history (Lehrbuch der Kirchengeschichte, Mainz 1874), which was also translated into Italian.
Among his other works, notable for their extensive information and wealth of data are the Geschichte der katholischen Kirche in Deutschland im neunzehnten Jahrhundert, Mainz 1887–1905, in five volumes, and a monograph
on the ecclesiastical province of the Upper Rhine (Die Oberrheinische Kirchenprovinz von ihrer Gründung bis zur Gegenwart mit besonderer Berücksichtigung des Verhältnisses der Kirche zur Staatsgewalt, Mainz 1868).
