CALGARY, Diocese of. - A city in the province of Alberta, Canada, and a suffragan see of Edmonton (formerly St. Albert), comprising the southern part of Alberta. It is bounded on the east by the province of Saskatchewan, on the south by the United States, and on the west by British Columbia.
CALICE - A silver chalice of the deacon Orso: † DE DONIS DEI UBIUS DIACONUS SANCTO PETRO ET SANCTO PAULO OPTULIT (5th–6th centuries), found in 1875 in a cave between Castel Tesino and S. Donato di Lamon, purchased by the parish of Lamon, diocese of Feltre.
There are 47,189 Catholics out of 277,000 inhabitants over an area of 66,230 sq km. It has 109 churches, 50 parishes, 63 diocesan priests and 30 regular clergy (1948). The diocese was erected on 30 November 1912 by separation from that of S. Alberto (now Edmonton), of which it had formed the southern part.
