CALGARY, Diocese of
City in the province of Alberta, Canada, and a suffragan see of Edmonton (formerly St. Albert), comprising the southern part of Alberta. It is bounded on the east by the province of Saskatchewan, on the south by the United States, and on the west by British Columbia.
**Chalice** — Silver chalice of Deacon Orso: *† de donis Dei Ursus diaconus sancto Petro et sancto Paulo detulit* (5th–6th centuries), found in 1873 in a cave between Castel Tesino and S. Donato di Lambri, purchased by the parish of Lambri, diocese of Feltre.
It has 47,189 Catholics out of a total population of 277,000 over an area of 66,230 km². There are 109 churches, 30 parishes, 63 diocesan priests, and 30 religious priests (1948). The diocese was erected on 30 November 1912 by separation from that of St. Albert (now Edmonton), of which it had previously formed the southern part.
