Camagüey, Diocese of

CAMAGÜEY, DIOCESE of. — City in the province of C. on the island of Cuba, and a suffragan diocese of Santiago di Cuba.

It comprises the civil province of C. and has an area of 26,098 sq km. Catholics number 500,000 out of a population of 530,000; there are 54 churches, 16 parishes, with 21 diocesan priests and 33 religious priests. The diocese was erected in 1912 through the division of Santiago di Cuba and Havana.
