CAMDEN, DIOCESE. – In the State of New Jersey (U.S.A.), a suffragan diocese of Newark, it comprises the counties of Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem.
It was erected on 9 December 1937 by partitioning the Diocese of Trenton, and on the following 10 December was assigned to the ecclesiastical province of Newark, created on the same day.
It has an area of 7,500 sq km. It numbers 139,479 Catholics out of 696,489 inhabitants, under the direction of 121 priests, 21 of them religious; there are 90 churches and 63 parishes (1948).
