CAMDEN, DIOCESE OF. — In the State of New Jersey (U.S.A.), a suffragan of Newark, it comprises the counties of Atlantic, Camden, Cape May, Cumberland, Gloucester, and Salem.
It was erected on 9 Dec. 1937, by separation from the Diocese of Trenton, and assigned on 10 Dec. following to the ecclesiastical province of Newark, created on the same day.
It has an area of 7,500 sq. km. It numbers 139,479 Catholics out of 696,489 inhabitants under the care of 121 priests, of whom 21 are religious; there are 90 churches and 63 parishes (1948).
