CARMEIA

CARMEIA. – The information available concerning the city and the diocese is scarce and uncertain. C. was a city of Apulia near the Gargano. Among the 24 episcopal sees of «regio II», Apulia, an episcopate «Carmeianum» is recorded prior to the Lombard invasion; a Probus, episcopus Carmeniensis or Carmenianensis, is recorded as having participated in the Roman Synods of 501 and 502.
