CHERUBINO DA AVIGLIANA, BEATO

CHERUBINO OF AVIGLIANA, Blessed. - Piedmontese Augustinian, descended from the Testa family, born at Avigliana in 1451 and died there on 17 September 1479. He was distinguished for his piety and obedience and for his ardent devotion to the Crucifix. Particular mention is due to his angelic purity, which he preserved unblemished throughout his life. After his death, according to a local tradition, the sound of bells, untouched by any hand, announced the passage of his soul to heaven, and his body gave off a fragrance of lilies for a long time. The cult of the blessed C., kept alive through the centuries, was confirmed on 21 September 1865 by Pius IX. His feast falls on 20 February.
