Cherubino da Avigliana, Blessed
Cherubino da Avigliana, an Augustinian from Piedmont, belonging to the Testa family, was born in Avigliana in 1451 and died there on 17 September 1479. He distinguished himself by his piety and obedience and by his ardent devotion to the Crucifix. Particular mention should be made of his angelic purity, which he preserved undefiled throughout his life. After his death, according to local tradition, the sound of the bells, untouched by any hand, announced the passage of his soul to heaven, and his body for a long time emitted a fragrance of lilies. The cult of Blessed Cherubino, which had remained alive through the centuries, was confirmed by Pius IX on 21 September 1865. His feast is celebrated on 20 February.
