Cyrillonus. — A Syriac poet who lived toward the end of the 4th century. Only the discovery of his hymns (ed. G. Bickell, in Zeitschrift der Deutschen Morgenländischen Gesellschaft, 27 (1873), pp. 566-98) brought Cyrillonus to light; he was certainly a cleric, probably a priest, and lived either in Syria or, more likely, in Mesopotamia.
Six of his hymns are known, remarkable for their literary beauty and of no small importance for dogma, especially for Mariology.
