COLLI MARCHINI, Michelangelo Alessandro. — Baron, general, born in Alessandria or Vigevano in 1756, died in Piedmont in 1809. He was sent by Pius VI to defend his domains from further Jacobin advances.
After the signing of the Peace of Tolentino (19 Feb.), in 1798 he entered the French army; on 15 Aug. 1799 he was seriously wounded and fell into Austrian captivity. Having fallen into disfavour, he was removed from active service; in 1805 he resigned and retired to private life.
