The Company of Saint Ursula was founded at Dôle in France in 1606 by the Venerable Anne de Xaintonge. It had a common origin with similar companies that arose in the 16th century. It was approved by Innocent X in 1648. The branch at Dôle, having not adhered to the Roman union of the Companies of Saint Ursula in 1927, has remained autonomous; its constitutions had been approved in 1847. The sisters devote themselves to the instruction and education of youth. It has 100 sisters and 10 houses.
