Ladies of Christian Instruction of Liège

DAME DELL'ISTRUZIONE CRISTIANA DI LIEGI

Italian original Cite

LADIES OF CHRISTIAN INSTRUCTION OF LIÈGE. - The beginnings of this institute go back to Msgr. M. De Broglie, bishop of Ghent, who gathered (1815) into a kind of association several ladies and young women desirous of instructing and educating young girls in a Christian manner. After his death, the vicars general approved it on 6 Aug. 1823, giving it the name it still bears and establishing it in the ancient Cistercian abbey of Dooreselle (Ghent). On 10 Aug. 1827 it was approved by the Holy See; the constitutions were adapted to the CIC in 1930. At present the sisters number about 600 in 14 houses.
