LADIES OF CHRISTIAN INSTRUCTION OF LIÈGE. — The origins of this institute go back to Mgr. M. De Broglie, bishop of Ghent, who gathered together (1815) a number of ladies and young women desirous of instructing and educating young girls in the Christian faith. After his death, the vicars general approved it on 6 August 1823, giving it the name it still bears and establishing it in the former Cistercian abbey of Dooreselle (Ghent). It was approved by the Holy See on 10 August 1827; the constitutions were adapted to the CIC in 1930. At present the sisters number approximately 600 in 14 houses.
