DAME DELL'ISTRUZIONE CRISTIANA DI LIEGI. - The origins of this institute trace back to Monsignor M. De Broglie, Bishop of Ghent, who gathered (1815) several ladies and young women desirous of instructing and educating young girls in the Christian faith. After his death, the vicars general approved it on August 6, 1823, giving it the name it still bears and establishing it in the ancient Cistercian abbey of Dooreselle (Ghent). On August 10, 1827, it was approved by the Holy See; the constitutions were adapted to the Code of Canon Law in 1930. Currently, the sisters number about 600 in 14 houses.
