CONTANT, PHILIPPE de la MOLETTE du. — Exegete, born in Dauphiné on 29 August 1739, doctor of the Sorbonne and vicar general of Vienna, guillotined by the revolutionaries on 24 July 1794.
Works: Essai sur l'Écriture Sainte (Paris 1775); Nouvelle méthode pour entrer dans le vrai sens de l'Écriture (there 1777); La Genèse expliquée d'après les textes primitifs (there 1777); L'Exode expliqué (there 1780); Les Psaumes expliqués d'après les différents textes orientaux (there 1781); Le Lévitique expliqué (there 1785).
He also left a manuscript of a Nouvelle Bible polyglotte.
