CONRAD OF RODENBERG. - Benedictine abbot, also known by the name C. Barscerier, b. at Rodenberg in an unknown year; d. at Rheingau on 15 Dec. 1486. He was prior of St. Martin's in Cologne, and then abbot of Johannisberg in Rheingau, a monastery belonging to the Bursfeld Union. He was much praised for his piety and for his learning. As abbot he carried on great activity as a reformer, so much so that he is numbered among the founders of the Congregation of Bursfeld.

The following works by him survive (still unpublished): Vinea Domini Sabaoth, a treatise in honor of the Virgin; Exercit. novitiorum liber, a small manual of formation in the interior life for novices and for monks; it is a short work that links up with the current of devotion that was establishing itself at that time among the Canons Regular of Windesheim and among the Carthusians; De praeparatione sacerdotis ad Missam; and three Orationes delivered by him in the Chapters of the Benedictine province of Cologne.
