CORRADO of RODENBERG. – Benedictine abbot, also known by the name of C. Barcsier, born in Rodenberg at an unknown date; died at Rheingau on 15 December 1486. He was prior of St Martin’s in Cologne, and later abbot of Johannisberg in Rheingau, a monastery belonging to the Bursfeld union. He was highly praised for his piety and learning. As abbot he carried out extensive reforming activity, to the extent that he is counted among the founders of the Bursfeld Congregation.
The following works remain from him (still unpublished): Vinea Domini Saboath, a treatise in honour of the Virgin; Exercit. novitiorum liber, a small manual for the interior life addressed to novices and monks; it is a short work that aligns with the current of devotion that at that time was gaining ground among the Canons Regular of Windsheim and the Carthusians; De praeparatione sacerdotis ad Missam; and three Orationes delivered by him at the Chapters of the Benedictine province of Cologne.
