CONRAD OF WALDHAUSEN. - Regular canon, born in Upper Austria certainly before 1320, died in Prague on 8 December 1369. He was a canon at Waldhausen; having become a priest, he carried out the activity of preacher for 15 years.

In his sermons he energetically advocated a radical reform in the clergy and among the people. He achieved good results, but his overly fiery and biting words brought him the accusation of heresy, from which he had to clear himself in Rome in 1359. He therefore composed his Apologia, which he published in 1365; from this work are drawn the principal notices of his life. C. also exercised the office of parish priest in various localities. Of his sermons none has survived. Besides the aforementioned Apologia, there are known of him 73 manuscript discourses handed down as Postilla studentium Universitatis Pragensis, and a treatise De arte oratoria, likewise still in manuscript.
