CONSTANTINE MELITENIOTES. — He belonged to the famous family of the M. and held the office of archdeacon and chartophylax of the church of Hagia Sophia in Constantinople in the second half of the 13th century.
He is counted among the supporters of the Latins for reconciliation with the Roman Church, and in 1270, along with his literary master John Bekkos (q.v.), whose opinions and misfortunes he followed even into exile when he became patriarch of Constantinople, he was sent as an ambassador to St. Louis, king of France. He composed writings on the unity of the Church.
