COSTANTINO MELITENIOTA. — He belonged to the celebrated family of the M. and held the office of archdeacon and chartophylax of the church of S. Sofia in Constantinople in the second half of the 13th century.
He is numbered among the supporters of the Latins in favor of reconciliation with the Roman Church and in 1270, together BECCOS (v.), whose opinions and misfortunes he followed into exile when he became patriarch of Constantinople, was sent as ambassador to s. Luigi, king of France. He composed writings on the unity of the Church.
