DEFINITORE

DEFINITOR. — In some religious Orders (among which are now the Cistercians, the Friars Minor, the Capuchins, the Regular Third Order of St. Francis, the Recollects and the Discalced Augustinians, the Discalced Carmelites) and also in some religious Congregations, the term “definitor” (d.) is applied to the members of the General Chapter (v. CHAPTER) or of another collegial body entrusted with the task of assisting the Minister General of the Order. The college of the definers of an Order is also called the “definitorium.”
