DEFINITOR. – In certain religious Orders (including at present the Cistercians, Friars Minor, Capuchins, the Third Order Regular of s. Francesco, the Recollects and the Discalced Hermits of s. Agostino, and the Discalced Carmelites), and also in some religious Congregations, the d. are the members of the General Chapter (v. CAPITOLO) or of another collegiate body entrusted with the task of assisting the superior general of the Order. The college of d. of an Order is also called the definitorium.
