DIDASKALEION. - A journal founded in 1912 by the Salesian Paolo Ubaldi. Its programme, indicated by the subtitle Studi filosofici di letteratura cristiana antica, was, as explained in the presentation, “to promote the study of Christian literatures in general, and especially of Greco-Latin literature,” exclusively from the aesthetic and philological standpoint.
It was published by the Libreria (later Società) Editrice Internazionale in Turin. Suspended in 1917, it resumed, in a new series, in 1923, with a somewhat expanded programme, as announced by the new subtitle Studi di letteratura e storia cristiana antica, still under Ubaldi’s direction; its editors were the Salesians Sisto Colombo and Paolo Barale through 1925 inclusive, and thereafter Colombo alone. The new series also included bibliographical bulletins on Greco-Latin Christian literature and related subjects. In 1925 it became a scholarly organ affiliated and attached to the Faculty of Letters and Philosophy of the Catholic University, to which Ubaldi had been transferred. It ceased publication at the end of 1931. “D.” also had its own “Biblioteca,” which collected six studies already published in the journal.
