ECHOS D'ORIENT. – Monthly journal begun by the Augustinians of the Assumption in 1807 as a continuation of the Echos de Notre-Dame de France. The authoritative journal set out to elucidate the questions of the Christian East; it gradually assumed an increasingly strictly scholarly character and distinguished itself outstandingly in the field of Byzantine studies. E. d'O. was published in Paris and, latterly, in Lyon, while its editorial office was in Bucharest. Suspended with volume 39 in 1942, it found a continuation in the Revue des études byzantines, which has been published twice a year since 1943 and whose editorial office, formerly in Bucharest, is now in Paris.
