ESICHIO of MILETUS. — Also called “Illustris,” from around 550, perhaps a Christian, author of a universal history, with additions extending to the early years of Justinian, preserved only in a few fragments.
He was also the author of a literary encyclopedia, called Onomatologus. The later excerpts from the Onomatologus subsequently served in the compilation of the Suda and Photius’s Bibliotheca.
