EUSEBIO d'ALESSANDRIA. - Probably a fictitious figure of the Alexandrian priest Giovanni (PG 86, 1, 297-310), who published under this name his own 22 Ascetic Treatises (ibid., 313-462).
Various fragments were found by K. Holl, Fragmente vernicaenischer Kirchenvoter aus der Sacra Parallela (Texte und Untersuchungen, 30, 1), Leipzig 1899, pp. 214-233. No fewer than 3 different Greek recensions of Sermon 16: De die dominica were published by F. Nau (in Revue de l'Orient christ., 13 [1908], pp. 406-35); on this treatise V. also Th. Zahn, Eine dithirebliche Rede über die Sonntagsruhe, in Zeitschrift für kirchliche Wissenschaft und kirchliches Leben, 1884, pp. 216-34. Some sermons, inspired by the Gospel of Nicodemus, are lively in character and probably later served for sacred representations.
