EVAGRIUS. - Around 430 a certain E. published in Gaul, under the title Alteratio legis inter Simonum Iudaeum et Theophilum Christianum, a Judeo-Christian disputation, which in the 5th century was in everyone's hands (Gennadius, De viris illustribus, 50).

The discussion unfolds on the basis of the Old Testament. The thesis of A. Harnack, Die Alteratio Simons, etc. (Textes and Untersuch., 1, 111, Leipzig 1883), that the Alteratio would be nothing other than a reworking of the Dialogue of Jason and Papiscus by Aristo of Pella (v.) is untenable. E. knew Tertullian, the Testimonia of Cyprian and Gregory of Elvira.
