EVODIO. - A friend of s. Agostino, he followed him to Rome and was present at the death of s. Monica (Agostino, Conf., IX, 12, 31; cf. IX, 8, 17); afterwards both returned to Africa. From about 396 he was bishop of Uzela in proconsular Africa, d. in 426. After taking part in a mission to Rome to request the enforcement of the Theodosian laws against the Donatists, he aroused their anger against his person (404).
E. was probably the author of the treatise De fide contra Manichonas (PL. 12, 1139-54; CSEL, 25, edited by L. Zycha, p. 949). In the collection of the Epistole of s. Agostino (nos. 158, 160, 161, 163), 4 letters by E. have been preserved; another, addressed to Abbot Valentino of Adrumento and concerning the problems of predestination and Grace, was published by G. Morin in Revue bénéditive, 18 (1901), pp. 241-56.
