FABRICIUS, JOHANN ALBERT. – A great scholar, born in 1668 in Leipzig, died in 1736 in Hamburg, where he held the positions of librarian and director of the academic Gymnasium.
He published the Bibliotheca Graeca (14 vols., Hamburg 1705–28; 4th ed. by G. Ch. Harles, in 12 vols., ibid. 1790–1806); the Index (Leipzig 1838); the Bibliotheca Latina (3 vols., Hamburg 1697); the Codex apocryphus Veteris Testamentis
(3 vols., ibid. 1703–39); the Codex pseudepigraphus Veteris Testamentis (2 vols., ibid. 1713; 2nd ed., ibid. 1722–23); S. Hippolyti episcopi et martyris opera (I–II, ibid. 1716–18). F. also edited an edition of Filastrius, De haeresibus (ibid. 1721).
