REVUE BÉNÉDICTINE. - Periodical begun in 1884 by the abbey of Maredsous (Belgium) under the almost ascetic title of Messager des fidèles and with the aim of bringing the faithful closer to the Church, making them better acquainted with its traditions, doctrines and rites.
Little by little, without neglecting this original aim, the periodical accentuated its character of learned research, until in 1910, becoming a quarterly, it decisively embarked on the path of strictly scientific work, broadening and deepening its field of study, which came to embrace patrology, ecclesiastical history, liturgy and historical criticism. Besides articles, notes and unpublished documents, and book reviews, the issues present two bibliographical bulletins, one on Benedictine history, the other on ancient Christian literature.
