REVUE BÉNÉDICTINE. — Periodical begun in 1884 by the abbey of Maredsous (Belgium), under the somewhat ascetic title Messager des fidèles, with the aim of bringing the faithful closer to the Church by helping them to know its traditions, doctrines, and rites better.
Little by little, without neglecting this original aim, the periodical accentuated its character as a vehicle for learned research, until in 1910, when it became a quarterly, it decisively embarked upon the path of strictly scientific work, broadening and deepening its field of study, which came to embrace patrology, ecclesiastical history, liturgy, and historical criticism. In addition to articles, notes and unpublished documents, and book reviews, the issues contain two bibliographical bulletins, one on Benedictine history and the other on ancient Christian literature.
