REVUE APOLOGÉTIQUE. - A monthly periodical founded in Paris in 1905 by the Sulpician Jean Guibert, director of the Seminary of the city’s Catholic Institute, in order to provide especially the clergy and scholars with the means of refuting accurately and vigorously the objections raised by opponents.
Its original title was Revue pratique d'apologétique, which better defined its character; after the First World War it adopted the more universal title of Revue d'apologétique, because, without ceasing to be practical, it wished to concern itself less with immediate usefulness and more with general formation. In 1939, however, under the title Nouvelle revue apologétique, it resumed, at least in part, its original character, having observed that directors of pastoral works and young priests have greater need of brief, precise, clear articles on the major religious questions of the day than of longer articles and more specialized studies. The periodical ceased publication with the Second World War.
