A prominent member
of the community of
Rome, remembered in
2 Tim. 4:21.

He is the first of the
group who greets
Timothy: there follow
Pudens, Linus and
Claudia; but the order
could be purely
fortuitous.
On the other hand, the importance
and position of the
other persons named are unknown (it is
very probable, however,
that Linus is the future successor of
Peter); hence nothing
can be deduced about
E. Nor from his name, which
was very widespread, can anything be inferred about his origin. The Greeks commemorate him with Nympha on 28 February, giving to both of them the title of apostles.
