FANTINO di CALABRIA, saint. — Basilian ascetic of the 10th century, who lived in the famous region of Mercurion, between Calabria and Lucania; he died at Thessalonica on 25 July 970.
He was one of the spiritual teachers of St. Nilo, whose biography provides details of his asceticism and method. Foreseeing the invasions of the Saracens, F. fled to Greece with other monks and, after various wanderings, settled in Thessalonica, where he died at about 70 years of age.
