FEDERAZIONE ASSOCIAZIONI TEATRO EDUCATIVO (F.A.T.E.) — Its establishment in Rome was resolved upon in 1910 by the Higher Council of the Società della Gioventù Cattolica Italiana, and it was formally constituted at the beginning of 1911 in an assembly of male theatre enthusiasts held in the hall of the «Religione e patria» circle. The comm. prof. Vincenzo Prinzivalli was its president from its foundation until its dissolution.
Purpose: to carry out, in the theatrical sphere, an activity parallel to that of the youth circles. During its fifteen years of existence, it promoted various competitions for Catholic amateur dramatic plays and for writers «pro teatro educativo», culminating in its participation, with a prize competition, in the commemoration of the twenty-fifth anniversary of the foundation of the Società della Gioventù Cattolica Italiana. A representative of the F.A.T.E. was an ex officio member of the Higher Council of the Gioventù cattolica. The organ of the F.A.T.E., of a national character, was the illustrated monthly periodical Teatro nativo, published in Rome, which began publication in 1911, taking over from the periodical Teatro musica e sport, previously published in Vicenza. Its editor was the same president of the F.A.T.E. It ceased publication in 1925.
The F.A.T.E. ceased its activity in 1926, compelled to do so by the provisions issued by the Partito nazionale fascista, which established the O.N.D. (Opera nazionale dopolavoro) as the sole recreational organization.
