FELICE, bishop of TREVIRI, saint. — He was elected on the occasion of the Council convened at Treviri in 385 for the Priscillianist controversy, succeeding Britton. Sulpicius Severus (Dial., III, 13, 15) praises him as a holy man and states that in other times he would have been a most worthy bishop.
Around him, however, the party of the heretics gathered, giving rise to a brief schism. After 12 years of episcopate and struggles, he resigned his bishopric and withdrew to do penance in a monastery. He died around 400 and was buried in a church at Treviri, which he himself had built, and where he was also venerated as a saint. He is commemorated in the Martyr. Romanum on 26 March.
