FELIX, Bishop of Urgell. - In office at Urgel (ca. 782) in the Hispanic March, d. in 818. Together with Elipandus, he was the principal champion of Adoptionism, which he defended with great erudition and zeal. Judged at the Council of Regensburg of 792, convoked by Charlemagne, he publicly renounced his errors, which he abjured once again shortly afterward in Rome before Pope Adrian I.

Having however relapsed into the same errors, he wrote a highly erudite work, now lost, later refuted by Alcuin, by Paulinus of Aquileia and by Agobard of Lyon. In a Synod of 798, at Rome, Leo III pronounced the anathema against F. A public disputation between F. and Alcuin before Charlemagne (Oct. 798) induced F. to acknowledge his heresy. He then addressed to his colleagues of Urgel a Confessio fidei, in which he exhorts them to the Catholic faith. Recently the Liber de variis quaestionibus adversus Iudaeos ac ceteros infideles seu quibuslibet haereticos, previously falsely attributed to St. Isidore of Seville, has been identified as a work of F.
