FELIX OF PRATO. - Augustinian exegete, b. in Prato in the second half of the 15th century to Jewish parents, d. in Rome around 1560. For some time he was an ardent and highly learned rabbi. After his conversion, he entered the Augustinian order and carried out his priestly apostolate especially through writings and preaching, directed toward the conversion of his former coreligionists. In 1523 he was awarded the degree in theology by the Augustinian general Gabriele Veneto. Subsequently, various important offices and assignments were entrusted to him both by his religious Congregation of Lecceto (Siena) and by the major superiors of the Order of St. Augustine. He was buried in the church of St. Augustine, in Rome.

Principal works: Psalterium ex haebraico latine veditum (Venice 1515, Basel 1524, Lyon 1530); Biblio rabbinica (2 vols., Venice 1518, and again in 1521, 1528, 1534; with many variants it was printed again in 1525 and in 1533).
