FIESCHI, NICOLA. — Cardinal, of the branch of the counts of Lavagna, b. around 1456, d. 15 June 1524. He was a man of great virtue and integrity. He received the cardinalitial title on 30 May 1503, when he was appointed legate to Louis XII and to the Republic of Genoa. He held various bishoprics, at times concurrently, according to the practice of the period: Toulon (1484–87; 1515–24); Fréjus (1485–88; 1495–1524); Agde (1488); Embrun (1511); Ravenna (1518–24), where he minted coinage; Sabina (1521); and Porto (1522).
