DAUGHTERS OF OUR LADY OF SORROWS (Tarbes). - Institute founded at Tarbes in France on 28 March 1866, through the work of the pious young lady of St-Frae with the assistance of Canon Ribes and with the approval of the diocesan ecclesiastical authority, under the Rule of St. Augustine. Three years later the Ordinary approved its first constitutions. The decree of praise and the temporary approval of the constitutions came on 9 December 1930.

The special purpose of the Institute is to honor the Sorrows of the Virgin, spreading devotion to them and practicing in her honor the works of spiritual and corporal mercy toward the poor abandoned elderly, the sick and the incurable, receiving them free of charge in its own houses and providing for their needs by begging.
