FRANCISCAN SISTERS OF THE MOST SACRED HEART OF JESUS OF JOLIETTE. - They were founded in 1876 at Avila, Indiana (U.S.A.), by some sisters who had come from Germany, who in 1885 formed an independent institute that in 1898 was approved by the Holy See and in 1905 aggregated to the Franciscan Order. The sisters devote themselves to the care of the sick, the elderly, orphans, to teaching, etc. There are 592 religious in 26 houses.
