Froment, Antoine

FROMENT, ANTOINE. - Born at Mens (Grenoble) in 1509. Converted by Farel to the "Reformation," he was the first to preach the new doctrines in Geneva. In 1533 he had to flee from Geneva, but he returned there the following year together with G. Farel and P. Viret, to whom he was thereafter always bound by lively friendship and devotion. In 1537 he became pastor of the church of St. Gervais. In 1553 he abandoned the ministry, and was elected notary and member of the "Two Hundred." Died at Geneva on 6 Nov. 1581. He published in 1554: Deux pièces préparatoires aux histoires et actes de Genève. He left as manuscripts several sermons and memoirs useful for the history of the "Reformation" in Switzerland.
