FROMENT, ANTOINE. — Born at Mens (Grenoble) in 1509. Converted by Farel to the «Reformation», he was the first to preach the new doctrines in Geneva. In 1533 he was forced to flee Geneva, but returned there the following year together with G. Farel and P. Viret, with whom he was thereafter always bound by deep friendship and devotion. In 1537 he became pastor of the church of S. Garvasio. In 1553 he abandoned the ministry and was elected notary and member of the «two hundred». Died in Geneva on 6 November 1581. In 1554 he published: Deux pièces préparatoires aux histoires et actes de Genève. He left in manuscript several sermons and memoirs useful for the history of the «Reformation» in Switzerland.
