FROMENT, Antoine. — Born at Mens (Grenoble) in 1509. Converted to the Reformation by Farel, he was the first to preach the new doctrines in Geneva. In 1533 he had to flee from Geneva, but returned the following year together with G. Farel and P. Viret, to whom he remained thereafter closely bound by lively friendship and devotion. In 1537 he became pastor of the church of S. Gervasio. In 1553 he abandoned the ministry and was elected notary and member of the “Two Hundred.” Died at Geneva on 6 Nov. 1581. In 1554 he published: Deux pièces préparatoires aux histoires et actes de Genève. He left in manuscript some sermons and memoirs useful for the history of the Reformation in Switzerland.
