GIORNALE DANTESCO. - A literary, critical, and bibliographical review on the life, works, and times of Dante, founded by the publisher Leo S. Olschki in 1893 to replace *L’Alighieri, Rivista di cose dantesche*, which he had edited and directed by F. Pasquale (4 vols., Verona 1889-93). After Pasquale’s death and the failed attempts to merge *L’Alighieri* with the *Bollettino della Società dantesca italiana* of Florence, Olschki began publishing the *G. d.* in the same city, directed by G. L. Passerini, which continued until 1915 (23 vols.).
Temporarily suspended in 1916, its publication resumed in 1921 under the direction of L. Pietrobon, joined shortly thereafter by Guido Vitaletti; the journal later adopted (1928) the subtitle *Annuario dantesco*.
Meanwhile, as early as 1917, Passerini had independently launched another Dante-related journal, titled *Il nuovo giornale dantesco*, which in 1921 took the subtitle *Rassegna critica e bibliografica della letteratura dantesca*.
