GIORNALE DANTESCO. - A journal of literary, critical and bibliographical studies on the life, works and times of Dante, founded by the publisher Leo S. Olschki in 1893 in place of L'Alighieri, Rivista di cose dantesche, published by him and edited by F. Pasqualigo (4 vols., Verona 1889-93). After the death of Pasqualigo and the failure of attempts to merge L'Alighieri with the Bullettino della Società dantesca italiana, of Florence, Olschki began in that same city the publication of the G. d., edited by G. L. Passerini, which lasted until 1915 (23 vols.).

Temporarily suspended in 1916, its publication was resumed in 1921, under the editorship of L. Pietrobono, who was joined shortly afterwards by Guido Vitaletti; the journal later (1928) acquired the subtitle of Annuario dantesco.

Meanwhile, as early as 1917 Passerini had begun on his own account the publication of another Dante journal of his, which bore the title Il nuovo giornale dantesco, which then in 1921 took the subtitle of Rassegna critica e bibliografica della letteratura dantesca.
