GIOVANNI BUONO, SANTO

**SAINT JOHN BUONO** — Born in Camogli to a noble and wealthy Genoese family around the end of the 6th century. As a young man, he was taken to Milan and enrolled among its clergy. Elected bishop around 649, he proved himself a worthy shepherd, shining brightly in the splendor of his virtues, his works of charity, and miracles. He built a church in Desio where he transferred the body of Saint Syrus, bishop of Genoa, and enriched it with numerous other relics. At his death, after a decade of episcopacy, he left all his private possessions to the Church of Milan and was buried in the church of Saint Michael. In 1582, Saint Charles Borromeo transferred his body to the Cathedral. The date of his death is uncertain, but in the *Roman Martyrology* he is commemorated on January 10.
