GRAZZINI, ANTON FRANCESCO. — Born in Florence on 22 March 1503, died there on 18 February 1584. He was a poet and writer; in 1540 he founded with others the Accademia degli Umidi, among whom was called Lasca, and in 1582 the Accademia della Crusca.
He succeeded better in humorous verses (Firenze 1741) than in serious ones, and more in works of lively imagination than in scholarly works (Lezioni alla Croce): from the Guerra dei mostri (only one canto) and the Nanea to the 3 farces (only one complete, Il frate) and the 7 comedies written before 1566 (La gelosia, La spiritata, La strega, La pinzochere, La sibilla, Monigliano, Milano 1949, pp. 322-26).
