GRAZZINI, ANTON FRANCESCO. – Born in Florence on 22 March 1503, and died there on 18 February 1584. He was an apothecary and writer; in 1540 he founded with others the Accademia degli Umidi, among whom he adopted the name Lasca, and the Crusca in 1582.
He succeeded better in the comic poems than in the serious ones (Florence 1741), and, more than in works of learning (Lezioni alla Croce), devoted himself to those of capricious imagination: from the Guerra dei mostri (only 1 canto) and the Nanea to the 3 farces (only one complete, Il frate) and from the 7 comedies written before ’66 (La gelosia, La spiritata, La strega, La pinzochera, La sibilla,
