GRIMM, JOSEPH. - Exegete, b. 23 Jan. 1827 at Frisinga, d. at Würzburg on 1 Jan. 1896. Ordained priest on 24 June 1850, in 1856 professor at Ratisbona of exegesis of the Old and New Testaments until 1864, from the autumn of that year only of the Old Testament, and from 1874 professor of New Testament exegesis at Würzburg.
His principal work is Das Leben Jesu. Nach den vier Evangelien dargestellt (7 vols., Ratisbona 1876-99). Vol. VII, which he left unfinished, was completed by Giuseppe Zahn. Of the 2nd ed., begun in 1890, the first 3 vols. were still edited by G. himself (1890, 1893-95), but vols. IV through VI are by Zahn (1897, 1900, 1903); 3rd ed. 1906-20.
