GRIMM, JOSEPH. - Exegete, b. Jan. 23, 1827 at Freising, d. at Würzburg on Jan. 1, 1896. Ordained priest on June 24, 1850, in 1856 professor at Regensburg of exegesis of the Old and New Testaments until 1864, from the autumn of that year only of the Old, and from 1874 professor of New Testament exegesis at Würzburg.

His principal work is Das Leben Jesu. Nach den vier Evangelien dargestellt (7 vols., Regensburg 1876-99). Vol. VII, which he left incomplete, was completed by Joseph Zahn. Of the 2nd ed., begun in 1890, the first 3 vols. are still edited by G. himself (1890, 1893-95), but from vol. IV through vol. VI they are by Zahn (1897, 1900, 1903); 3rd ed. 1906-20.
