GUARINO, saint. — Of the noble Guarini family, cardinal and bishop of Palestrina, born ca. 1680 in Bologna, died on 6 February 1158 in Palestrina.
Around 1104 he entered the Augustinian Order in the monastery of Mortara, and after 40 years of austere cloistered life was appointed cardinal and bishop
of Palestrina and consecrated by Pope Lucius II.
Because of his extraordinary life, immediately after his death he was declared a saint by Pope Alexander III. Feast day: 6 February.
