This martyr, however, as Lanzoni notes, is unknown from any other source. He may be the Quintinus recorded in some manuscripts of the *Martyrologium Hieronymianum* on 25 and 26 August.
At about the 36th mile of the Via Prenestina, near Paliano, a cemetery with inscriptions from the 5th century and the second half of the 6th was discovered. Some towns Subiaco (v.), such as Bellegra (Civitella), Roiate, Affile, and Arcinazzo (Ponza), once belonged to the diocese of Palestrina. Among the bishops of Palestrina were also those who ascended to the papacy, such as Clement III, Gregory XI, Nicholas IV, Paul III, Julius III, and Leo XI. In 1298, Boniface VIII, at the conclusion of his struggle with the Colonna family, destroyed the city of Palestrina, sparing only the cathedral, which Cardinal L. Portocarrero reduced to its present form in 1706. The episcopal archives of Palestrina preserve no documents prior to 1597; it is not impossible that the ancient records were lost in the destruction of the city by Boniface VIII. Among the shrines of the diocese of Palestrina, the most venerated is that of the Madonna del Buon Consiglio at Genazzano, of neoclassical form, restored in 1844, on whose façade is a portal from the 15th century, which certainly dates to the time of the alleged miraculous arrival of the image of the Madonna from Scutari (Albania). This image is the prototype of the numerous other representations of the Madonna del Buon Consiglio found throughout the world.
In the Consistory of 21 June 1948, the cardinal bishop of Palestrina was given a suffragan bishop. The diocese of Palestrina has as its ordinary appellate seat the vicariate of Rome.
