In May 599 Pope Gregory I sent a reply "to Secundinus, servant of God and recluse," to certain questions that he had put to him concerning the question of the Three Chapters and other matters. In another letter to Queen Theodelinda he calls him "Secun-

dus abbas". Paul relates that Adaloald, son of the queen and of Agilulf, "susceptus de fonte est a Secundo servo Christi de Tridento" in the church of St. John the Baptist in Monza. S. must therefore have had an important part in this event, which broke a dynastic tradition among the Arian Lombards; King Autari had in fact forbidden his subjects to receive Catholic Baptism (St. Gregory I, Registri, I, no. 17). S. died in 612.
