GUIBERTO di GEMBLOUX. - Hagiographer and Benedictine abbot, b. c. 1125, d. after 1213. A monk at Gembloux and Tours, c. 1187 he became abbot of Florennes and in 1194 of Gembloux, from which he withdrew in 1204.
In various works he celebrated the glories of s. Martino of Tours: Vita s. Martini (partial ed. in A. Pitra, Analecta sacra, VIII, Montecassino 1881, pp. 584-91); a prolix rhythmic composition; De laudibus s. Martini opuscola duo (ibid., pp. 582-600); Quatuor epistulae de cultu s. Martini apud Turonenses (ed. in Analecta Bollandiana, 3 [1884], pp. 217-57); Ep. de s. Martino (ed. H. Delehaye, ibid., 7 [1888], pp. 256-382, with a learned introduction).
An admirer of s. Ildegarda, he was her guest (1177-79) and maintained an epistolary relationship with her (PL 211, 1287-1312). He also wrote the history of the fire at the abbey of Gembloux (ibid., 160, 657-62) and an Epistola ad Idam abbatissam Montis S. Roberti (ed. by the Bollandists, Catalogus codicum hagiograf. Biblioth. regiae Bruxellensis, I, Bruxelles 1886, pp. 557-61).
