HOLLWECK, JOSEPH. — Canonist, born in Pfaffenhofen (Upper Palatinate) on 16 January 1854, died in Eichstätt on 10 March 1926. Ordained a priest in 1879, from 1892 he was a professor at the Eichstätt Lyceum, first of canon law and subsequently also of ecclesiastical history and administrative law.
In addition to numerous works published in various journals, he wrote a Lehrbuch des katholischen Kirchenrechts (2nd ed., Freiburg im Br. 1905); but his fundamental work is Die kirchlichen Strafgesetze (Mainz 1899), in which the penal laws of the Church are collected and commented upon, and which was extensively used in compiling the relevant part of the CIC.
