Hollweck, Joseph

HOLLWECK, JOSEPH. - Canonist, b. at Pfaffenhofen (Upper Palatinate) on 16 Jan. 1854, d. at Eichstätt on 10 March 1926. Ordained a priest in 1879, from 1892 he was a professor at the Lyceum of Eichstätt, first of canon law, later also of Church history and administrative law.

Besides numerous works, scattered in various journals, he wrote a Lehrbuch des katholischen Kirchenrechts (2nd ed., Freiburg im Br. 1905); but his fundamental work is Die kirchlichen Strafgesetze (Mainz 1899), in which the penal laws of the Church are collected and commented upon and which was widely used in the compilation of the relevant part of the CIC.
