HOLLWECK, JOSEPH. - Canonist, born at Pfaffenhofen (Upper Palatinate) on 16 Jan. 1854, died at Eichstätt on 10 March 1926. Ordained priest in 1879, he was professor at the Lyceum of Eichstätt from 1892, first of canon law, later also of ecclesiastical history and administrative law.
In addition to numerous works scattered in various journals, he wrote a Lehrbuch des katholischen Kirchenrechts (2nd ed., Freiburg in Br. 1905); but his fundamental work is Die kirchlichen Strafgesetze (Mainz 1899), in which the penal laws of the Church are collected and commented upon and which was widely used in the compilation of the corresponding part of the CIC.
